I thought of using a sound box and having strings across along the length of the rectangular wooden box. But in my design there was a major fault i did not have the freedom to change the tension of the strings and the lengths were equal which resulted in very similar sounds and the difference was because of the type and different thicknesses of the strings.
FINAL INSTRUMENT
Then i chose my final instrument to be the thumb piano. While making this instrument my main aim was to experimenting with material to see how the different thicknesses, density of the wood would make a difference in the sound that is produced.
The sound box of the thumb piano was not something i had to put much effort on as the thickness of the wood that was used for the lid with the sound hole is what mattered. The thinner it is the better it is because if the wood is thick then it end us absorbing the sound waves as wood absorbs vibrations.
For the notes i have used hacksaw blades as they are not flexible and do not change shape when bent.
The bridge must transfer the vibration to the sound board or other amplifying surface.
