The Wind Chime

The second assignment was to make an instrument that would work on wind.
My instrument was the wind chime.

The longer the tube is the lower the sound. Due to the length it takes longer for the chime to vibrate. Same thing goes with a shorter chime, the shorter the chime is the shorter it takes for it to vibrate.
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. The tube gets hit from wind or a mallet and the energy is dissipated across the surface causing it to vibrate. In the classic pendulum, the chime is hit and it swings.

Wind chimes that don't have different lengths of tubes but strings, or different types of string.
The stiffer the string is the softer the sound is.

In my wind chime the strings are of varied lengths and the create a very soothing sound.
